Nature Immersion awaits you at Santa Fe Tree House Camp & Wilderness Preserve

Welcome

The Santa Fe Tree House Camp, managed by The Wilderness Institute, is a non-profit with the mission to protect and steward a 156-acre wilderness preserve for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy for eco-camping retreats, summer camps, and experiential education. It is our hope that we can inspire visitors to gain a new appreciation of nature, ecology, and sustainability principles, which we ourselves work hard to maintain on our grounds.

Our preserve, your campground

Our wilderness preserve is situated in northern New Mexico’s piñon, juniper, and ponderosa forests at the southernmost reach of the Rocky Mountains within the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. It’s characterized by volcanic rocks (like rhyolite tuffs and basalt) layered over older sedimentary rocks, which creates unique mesa formations and canyons. Our preserve supports a wide variety of life, including diverse mammals, vibrant bird species like the Western Tanager and hummingbirds, and reptiles like the prolific short-horned lizard.

Wildflowers, whispering winds and star-filled wonders await you…

Campground activities by The Wilderness Institute

For forty years The Wilderness Institute has provided experiential activities and outdoor education services to the public and groups. In partnership with the Santa Fe Tree House Camp, they continue to provide their services to campers. Activities include both physical options like rock climbing and archery, and wellness-focused ones like yoga and interpretive nature walks. If outdoor education is more your thing, consider something custom like wilderness survival skills workshop or group challenges for you and your family or friends. Learn more about activities.
